Why bother re alarm? - most alarms ignored by public and can cause grief for neighbours!
Fitting 3rd party alarm as well as Std fit immobiliser sounds as a recipe for disaster. getting both to work with the Vauxhall remote might be problematic - 2 fobs?
Vauxhall will probably have an upgrade to their system and although it may be more expensive it will be known upgrade path and in the future if something goes wrong you might be able to get it fixed.

Car make? Age?
Vauxhall are able to fit an approved alarm (Meta I think) so that it works with the existing remote fob, etc.

None.
what model, year is it?
Basically car alarms are not worth the time, money, effort, or agro. They are no deterent. If the car has a modern imob it wont get nicked, so all you are guarding against is breaking in and lifting stuff. All the alarm does is to tell you to go outside and sweep up the broken glass and check whats gone.

Sorry - yes, make would help!
Vauxhall Elegance 2003 (estate).
Not a very techy minded person here so the obvious is not obvious to me!
Yep - alarms are hassle - I have had a red flashing LED and the visble I have an alarm bluff of the send/receive sonar 'thingies' mounted in my last car for 10 years - no alarm though!

Vauxhall Elegance 2003 (estate).
Elegance is the trim level, not the make. ie, is it a Corsa, Astra, Vectra, AN Other?
Thinking about it, it won't be a Vectra Elegance as they have a factory fit alarm as standard.

See, told you I was not a techy person!!!
It is an Astra! {Now added to header - DD}

Are you sure it hasn't got an alarm? According to Parkers, the Elegance is the top spec trim level for the Astra and should have a factory fitted alarm.

I've got the 2002 brochure from when I bought my Astra and, yes, the Elegance is listed as having a 'remote control ultrasonic security alarm'.

Tron, does it have a label marked ´power sounder´ under the bonnet, near the base of the windscreen?
|
If the car has an alarm then there will be two items inside it. One, a couple of small grills about a centimetre in diameter either side of the front interior lamp. They are the ultrasonic sensors. Two, there will be a red LED which lights up below the triangle symbol in the hazard flasher switch. This should light for the first 10 seconds after locking the car then start to flash about once a second. Look at pages 60 and 61 of the car instruction book.
