Replacement headlights - ease of access etc? - Happy Blue!
I was reading the thread about getting brighter headlights (up to 80% brighter than standard). Does anyone know how easy it is to pull out the old ones on a Legacy/Outback and put new ones in?

For '03-on Legacy/Outback just change the headlight bulbs for +50%, or whatever - H7 dip, HB3 main - bulb change detail is given in owners' manual.

That's my job for this morning!

Done! The air intake cold duct needs to be removed, 2 retainers, and take the retainer out of the washer bottle inlet to allow it to flex - rotate the dip bulb plastic cover anti-clockwise and remove (don't drop it inside the chassis!) - pull off connector and unclip bulb from housing - main bulb is the same but no plastic cover.

Thanks

I'm not bothered about the main beam, but better dipped beam would be really good. How do they look; your 50% brighter bulbs?

Don't know yet! I haven't been out in the dark since fitting them.

Halfords Super Brilliance +50% are on semi-permanent "buy one, get one free" so the H7 are £15 for a pair - the came out quite well in Auto Express's testing.

Dip beam, with Halfords Super Brilliance +50% H7 bulbs, are excellent - by far the best headlights I've ever been behind, probably due in part to the reflector design. They give a Z-beam with an absolutely crisp cut-off. I guess the Outback's self-levelling rear suspension helps by keeping the lights pointing where they should.

My local Halfords has a supply problem on the HB3 the main beam needs so I'm still using standard mainbeam.
