There are worse crimes, but I have always thought it dangerous to have anything swinging from the mirror - there's always movement in that area of peripheral vision which must make it harder to pick up other traffic movement in the corner of one's eye.

Frankly it sounds rather petty, although I do dislike such ornaments.

I think they would do better to target more serious 'crimes' such as having non-legal number plates, no insurance, driving badly, parking dangerously and so on.

I've passed two cars this week where the driver had their satnav at eye level, half way up the windscreen - I hate to think what it does for their ability to see motorbikes, cycles and pedestrians.

If they put it somewhere else they would have their eyes off the road while looking at the screen. It doesn't block out nearly as much view than todays' very thick 'A' pillars. Where do you, or would you, place your SatNav for maximum safety and ease of use?

What a load of rubbish. Ok so its not exactly safe driving, but "come down hard"
Dont you Sweaty coppers have worse things to come down hard on? If you havent then guys, franky you aint looking hard enough.

My sat nav holder is stuck to the peep window in the A post, and the sat nav sits just on the dash above the r/h air vent. There its visble in line of sight, and blocks about 1 inch of lower screen space

Time spent looking at the sat-nav: 2 seconds every 10 minutes. They have speakers you know?

Time spent using the full visibility of the windscreen: 50 seconds out of every minute (let's assume a couple of mirror and speedo checks)

To put it another way, if your car had a sticker in the middle of the screen it wouldn't pass an MoT

What's the purpose of having things hanging from the mirror? I'm just wondering whether I'm missing out on something. ;-)

Is this in fact just an excuse to be able to pull people over in order to look for other more important irregularlities?

If it is, then I'm in general approval of it. I may in in a minority, but I'd be quite happy for the police to be able to pull people over for spot checks without having to have a concrete reason at all. I have nothing to hide, and am quite happy to talk to the police from time to time.

Just wondering what would happen when someone tests the case for dangling magic christmas tree air fresheners from the rear view mirror?
Does the manufacturer actually recommend or specify such a location?

my cd of showaddy waddy

Nuff said, Bellboy!

To be honest, some of the people I've seen driving around, both in UK and here, deserve to get pulled - their winscreens are so full of tolls, pennants, gonks, stickers etc that there is no way they can see properly.
Likewise the tons of rubbish hanging from the rearview mirror.
Apparently the CD hanging there is because of an urban myth that the CD will somehow confuse the lazer guns used by plod...
