1993 - Immobiliser apparently stuck on - Lud
The alarm/immobiliser on my Escort was giving trouble in the year before I got it. It has always behaved well in my hands until recently. The alarm doesn't work, and the immobiliser seems to work judging by the flashing LED on the facia.

Recently the car has been misbehaving slightly, with the LED staying on steadily and the starter refusing to work. Today for the first time it didn't respond to the technique of getting out and double-locking the car from the driver's door a couple of times, the only way to arm the immobiliser. The light is now on all the time.

Does anyone know if there's a way to disconnect the immobiliser without affecting the central locking?

What a pain.

Sorry just realized I did it t'other way about - Lud's got your e-mail BB....an adrenalin rush caused this after a life changing experience today....
Immobiliser apparently stuck on - Lud
All OK PU. I have made contact.

I do hope it was a positive life-changing experience.

One can't help longing for one of those although life carries on anyway without them.

I imagine the time must come when changing your life is no longer a useful option.

Help!

The other Mods know, It will leak out over the next couple of days. Totally motoring related, I just can't bring myself to tell you after my rather dogmatic tirades over the years.

Hi,
I have this exact same problem. Any help greatly appreciated to mail@j-white.co.uk
Immobiliser apparently stuck on - Lud
If it's an early 90s Escort, mr confused, there's a simple solution. On the reverse side of the fuse tray, which can be swivelled down to get at the relays there (another source of occasional trouble, so press them all down in their sockets while you are about it) there is a fuse in the immobiliser circuit. In my car it is fairly far back on the right hand side. If you take that fuse out the starter circuit will work and the car will start and behave normally, apart from the immobiliser led which will stay on all the time. I have put two wires leading from that fuse socket to another aftermarket socket in which I put the fuse. That means that if the immobiliser is acting up there's no fiddling - fuse out, drive, then fuse back in. You should put it back in because the central locking won't work with the fuse removed, and because the immobiliser may work next time. If one of the warning lights glows faintly while the fuse is out and the car being driven, don't worry. It doesn't mean anything and my car has now stopped doing it. Of course if a warning light comes on at full strength it's safest to believe it!

I am indebted for this knowledge to an AA man, a Czech I think. When I said he must have a lot of information in his head given how many different cars there are, he gloomily replied: 'They're all the same.'

I forgot to say that to get at the back of the fuse tray, you have first to undo the lower facia panel on the driver's side - a few philips screws, no big deal. Best to do it in daylight though.

Thanks Lud,

I just looked on the relay board and there is only one fuse (7.5A). I removed this and tried to start the car but it did nothing, it's still immobilised. It's a 1994 Escort 1.3.

Thanks for your help.

Regards,

Jason.

hi, i have a 92 escort xr3i cabriolet and i have changed the battery but the car will not even go to start. it has an immobiliser and that used to bleep when i put the fob in, but now i have nothing.... Can you help please....
1993 - Immobiliser apparently stuck on - DP
Nicky - it sounds like you have an aftermarket immobiliser. What make is it? Is there any manufacturer logo or ID number on the fob? Were there any additional smaller leads on the battery terminals that you forgot to reconnec?
