Buying Advise needed: Bora TDI PD 150 - warmison
hi,

have seen a 2003 53 Bora TDI PD 150bhp 6 speed for sale at a garage local to where I work.
The car is metallic black.
Mileage is 88k with full VWSH
Car is advertised at £6400.
Is this a good price for the car?

Does anyone have any advise on purchasing the above model?
Anything I should look out for?

Thanks

Have a careful look at the 150PS PD engine for camshaft and follower wear - some of the SEAT and VW forums have quite a lot to say about this. The correct spec oil must be used in these engines at all times.

659.

I have a Bora Highline 130 in black with all the toys. When I was "researching" mine, I found quite a few comments and comparisons that basically said the 130 was the better option.

The performance between the two is not that great and I believe that the 130 is actually a bit quicker off the line because it has a smaller turbo and so spools up a bit quicker.

I like my car.It pulls like a train and accelerates really well.I recently did a driving holiday around France this summer using N roads and the motorways, sometimes at "silly" speeds and got 600 miles to a tankful of diesel which worked out at 57 mpg or something and that was with the aircon on all the time.

I bought mine in preference to the Golf because I prefer the looks and the BIG boot. The quality of the trim and fittings is very good and the blue backlit clocks looks very nice IMO.

I bought mine privately one year old with 14000 miles on the clock. It is a 2004 model and it had 2 years warranty left. The girl who owned it had spent over 18000 pounds on it when new ( she had the original dealer invoice). She had an Ottinger factory fitted spoiler on it and upgraded the Cd player to an indash 6 CD jobbie. No big box in the boot or under the seat.

It was virtually as new and I paid 10000 pounds for it.She had tried to sell it on Ebay but had no takers after 2 weeks so I sent her an email saying that her car was just what I wanted but my budget was 10000 pounds. Luckily for me it turned out that she was an Area Manager for Tesco and had just been given a big allowance for a company car so she wanted to sell this.

It all sounded too good to be true but everything was in order so I bought it.

It has been and still is a nice quick, comfortable and economical car that is well made and going by your quoted prices, is holding its value quite well.

I would also go for the 130. Unlike the 150 it has an almost universally excellent reputation for reliability and longevity if serviced correctly, and delivers its power much more progressively than the 150 with a wider "powerband" and much more bottom end muscle.

It's a lovely engine, the 130.

Cheers

If you really like it, offer £5,500 or perhaps somewhat less (no PX).

My Bora is eight years old and still looks as though it's just come out of the factory - I reckon it will easily see out my driving requirements during retirement...:-)

I am looking at one of these - Prob the 130. The Golfs in my price range seem to have 130k + miles while the Bora's are in the 70's and 80's.

Maybe the money saved on the 130 over the 130 can be spent on chipping it ?

What is the top Spec 130 to go for then ??
