M8 Glasgow to Edinburgh road is closed both ways between J3 and J3a at Livingston due to a fatal accident. Police reckon it will remain closed till early afternoon.

This is causing chaos in the area and will have more widespread implications including anyone maybe travelling up the A1 through Edinburgh to Glasgow.

Avoid the area if at all possible or expect huge delays.

Wasn't there chaos across a wide area of Scotland when a chicken truck overturned on a main A road recently?

The roads infrastructure up there seems very vulnerable to be so badly affected by single incidents.

Yeah there was, that was on the A80/M80 main trunk road from the Central region into Glasgow.

As with many areas when the main trunk roads are working, its fine, when they are not, its chaos!

Sadly, yesterdays incident was really tragic. Two vehicles collided, drivers got out to exchange details. One was hit by another passing vehicle and thrown onto the other carriageway where he was run over by yet another vehicle. The driver was killed.

A lesson to us all - if you collide on a Motorway (especially a two lane one like the M8 which is ultra busy and long overdue for upgrade to 3 lane) don't hang around on te hard shoulder - get over the banking as far as you can.

As we learn from yesterday, cars can be replaced, people can't.
