CRTD Blue smoke from exhaust all of a sudden - jeta1
Hi
I have had my CRTD CDX 6 speed Tucson about a year now and covered 14,000 miles. I first had a problem after about 4,000 miles . without warning the car would give out lots of blue smoke. The engine had plenty of time to warm up and their was no significant loss of power . The blue smoke was that bad i had to switch the engine off. Along with the smoke was a smell of burning , i personally think it was oil . I checked the oil level which was normal . I started the engine after about 10 minutes and once any residual smoke had gone ,the car would be smoke free for possibly 1,000 miles . This same scenario happened about six times . Eventually the car went to the dealers . they could not reproduce the problem and it took some convincing that the problem existed . they said they found two of the four injectors were low which they replaced . The car behaved for about 3,000 miles but has started to return .
I was wondering if any of your members have suffered a similar problem . I don't think it was anything to do with injectors or fuel at all ,i have always believed blue smoke to be associated with oil . I can see this going on a while so i am trying to do some research myself before contacting the dealers again, like many people i don't have much faith in them..
Thanks
Steve

Blue smoke - Screwloose

Steve

I've not seen this personally; but it sounds similar to other diesels that have excessive blow-by and occasionally blow oil through the breathers into the inlet tract.

The other possibility is crankcase pressure is forcing oil into the exhaust through the turbo.

Thanks for your input . Obviously i will have to go back to the dealers eventually but trying to find someone who has had the same problem first . The dealers i used the first time really didn't have a clue. The last time it happened i managed to film the car ticking over so at least i have evidence and they will be able to see for themselves ..

By any chance, is your Tucson fitted with a diesel particle filter? Just a thought, that it may be going through a regenerating/cleaning operation when you see the smoke...
