I'm interested in buying one. Whatcar? gives the JLX+ model at £10,500 whereas the Suzuki website has it at £9,000.
1) Why are they discounting them? (I thought they were selling well). Is a new model about to be released?
2) Can you still get a discount on an offer?

Probably ageing now. not sure about a replacement. I guess interest waning on the model.

I think the Jimny may be falling behind somewhat in the 'lifestyle' SUV market. Some would call it 'honest' - others 'crude'.

Hi catalyst2, I am pretty sure that production was planned to be brought to an end some time late 1st / mid 2nd quarter of 2008. (According to a number of 4x4 magazines I read early this year, late last year.) No mention of a new direct replacement, and looking at the way soft SUV's and AWD cars are going, there may not be another. SWMBO always liked them and will be upset if there is no chance of another.
The local dealer here in Glasgow usually has a couple of new ones ready for circa £7.5k which is pretty good as I think they come part leather / air con and usual other electric wigets.
Had one for a year 30K miles and it never missed a beat. Fab car, but a bit noisy and uncomfortable for long trips. Fuel consumption heavy for what it was, but no better way apparently to show up much more expensive 4x4s in the rough.

Santana, who build the Jimny in Spain for the EU market, say they have now got an extension on production to September 2009 instead of June 2008 as previously planned. Santana still build their own car based on the Vitara so may do a similar deal with Suzuki beyond that if sales look worthwhile. I suspect production has already stopped in Japan where there doesn't seem to be a replacement lined up. Suzuki said at the Frankfurt Show they were putting the emphasis on 'family' for future models.
We have a 2005 facelift JLX+ spec Jimny and it does everything as expected on and off road. I've done two 1500-mile trips to France in it this year and it is not a motorway cruiser but ideal for negotiating small villages and green lanes, with which France is well provided.

ive got a lady friend who keeps buying new ones, only used for very low miles and trips to supermarket, but its her money i guess
ive hired them abroad and they are indeed amazing off road for the money
no good on long motorway trips, but if i lived in a rural place which got bad snow id be tempted

OK, thanks a lot, very useful.

They are indeed concentrating on putting four wheel drive into family models I think, with cars like the SX4. I also drove an 05 Ignis 4Grip 5dr which certainly feels like a worthy countryside car as few Jimnys ever do any real offroading.
