You've got your edit button.
Only works if:
- you are the logged in poster
- date post created is less than 15 mins ago
- post has no replies
First post in thread allows you to alter make/model, category and subject title of thread.
Hopefully no problems!

Just the thing for the none too compos.
Never seen the point myself.
I can spell, so if I make the occasional typo it bothers me not a jot.
I hope this innovation doesn't result in a flood of court cases and terrorist attacks.
|
|
I can also spell but I often make typos, noticing these just after posting so a big thanks to Stephen from myself for what has been pleaded for from many a backroomer over the years.

Yes - it is debatable with the preview then post that we now have. However, I sometimes like to change the odd thing just after posting that I have missed on first reading.
I hope this innovation doesn't result in a flood of court cases and terrorist attacks.
Well it is limited to 15 mins at the moment and we can tune this if necessary.

"date post created is less than 15 mins ago"
Can you make it a bit longer?? It's when I come back to a post "the morning after" when I realise what tosh I posted under the influence of a couple (!) of glasses of red stuff the night before that I need to edit (delete!)
;-)

That's brilliant, Stephen. I hate typos, but they always seem to conceal themselves until the moment you hit the button (that instant of time called the ohnosecond). Thanks.

At last!!!
I can now go back in and round up some of my aberrant apostrophes that may have escaped.
[Or make an incomprehensible post even more so...]
Thank you!!

Excellent, I think 15 minutes is a good timeframe too. Even more useful is the "preview before posting" which should iron out most nonsense before the edit button's even needed.

wahooo!
used it already :)

mm yes it might make it hard for you mods if you change a post, only to have the person change it back within the 15 mins. Of course if you are slow on the mark and happen to edit outside of the 15 min window, then clearly the poster can't alter it again.

Re the Forum Edit Button. Much welcomed but, because I was unaware of the new feature, I lost a posting yesterday that I thought had been "posted"...:-(

"What's for you won't pass you by"
never a truer word said in a auto sig !

It's a brilliant addition to the forum.
One small change to a sentence can sometimes clarify the intended meaning and completely alter it's tone.
It's also nice to see that Stephen is a person who strives for perfection.

"verde come sono osservare del cavolo"
Sorry, PU, but you're being very learned and my Italian's not up to much; would you be so good as to translate (and possibly explain the significance)?

Ah - the dreaded on-line translator!
I must say PU's phrase was unfamiliar, so I Googled it and add the following link for those who are as ignorant as me. Clearly there is a clever reference by PU to his nickname, as you would expect from a mod of his calibre. :-)

Just a thought -
IF {mod edit user post} THEN {do not allow user edit} //expire 15 minute grace period?
Would give control back to the mods.
Seems like the end of an era!

My first ever attempt has not worked.
The response was
"Sorry, this post cannot be edited now as too much time has elapsed since it was first created."
My posting was tagged as 23:21 and my edit of 23:26 was rejected and the edit option removed from the bottom of the original.
