Suggested replacement for a MINI - bbroomlea{P}
Some of you may have read about our MINI probs in technical matters and the distinct lack of reliability and dealer problems.

Once they have eventually replaced the headgasket (or not) we will definately be trading the car in - or maybe sold private if there are no faults..

What to replace it with though? Its her car and she wants something as fun/cheeky/stylish (her words!) which rules out the usual ford/vx/Pug etc with a budget of around £5-7K - preferably no older than 4 years although for the right suggestion may stretch that. Any profit is going into my MGF/TF fund for a weekend runabout...

My initial suggestions are: Alfa 147 (my preference), buy the MG and have one car less to run, VW Beetle (dont like it), Fiat Grande Punto and thats where I am stuck!

Any more??

Thanks in Advance

That's becoming more & more like a back-handed compliment, judging by the growing BR concensus - I wouldn't pay the fashion-victim price for the Gucci go-kart again (done that, got the t-shirt).

I think if Nissan didn't make the Micra, it would be considered quite stylish.

Thanks all for your suggestions..

Completely forgot about the Suzuki, will definately be adding that to the list of potentials. As good as some of the other suggestions are, they are a little way out of budget - although a trip to Fiat and Mazda may be worth it so see what finance options are available.

We are going to look at a few Alfa 147's today, both petrol and diesel and a Hyundai Coupe thrown in for good measure.

Will have a look at some of the others tomorrow and let you know how we get on.

Any tips on the Alfa? What to look for etc? Diesel better than petrol?

Swift = practical & fun & funky & modern
147 - Mrs V tried one, before choosing her Mx5 - was a strong consideration, if you needed the above criteria
Mazda 3 - too dear/big maybe
Copen - not practical I guess

Suggested replacement for a MINI - Gone for MG TF - bbroomlea{P}
We have made a decision...at last.

Wasnt too impressed with the Alfa's we saw yesterday - patchy history, missing trim, wheel trims (do they still make those!!)..

Had a look at a swift which was very nice, however a little characterless.

So, our intention was originally to get an MGF from the change of selling the MINI and buying something a bit cheaper. Have decided to upgrade this to a very late MG TF, hopefully 80th Anniversary model, if only for the interior and not bother with another car.

Will be one car less to worry about servicing, insuring etc and although its not practical, its no worse than the MINI, infact there is probably more boot space!
