Does HJ have a list of all his recommended cars? Or do I have to read each individual review (again!)

I think you'll find that the Jazz is old hat - HJ is the Mazda 2's biggest fan

This all proves why there cannot be a recommended list even from HJ. Week on week it changes.
Someone like HJ can say what he thinks of a car, and it might be the best ever car... next week there might be a better one. We'd all be in litigation when we found out the Ford Monkfish was better then the Toyota Carp. Or did Ford do the carp ;-) But then we'd have the GM Ahi next...
PS Ahi (Tuna) is gorgeous in Lahaina, Maui. Don't drive on the northern/southern roads in a hire car though!

If you read the stuff as it comes you get the full changing picture.
Not long ago 1400cc diesels - it's infradig to add turbo now they say - were the thing. But some of the later small petrols are almost better in a way, given the odd snapped chain (surely the firm must have sorted that one by now?). You have to look at cars in the right category and see if he has an opinion. There are millions of hopeless jalopies or nearly, you can't expect even the Stakhanovite HJ to have really tried them all.

But new cars and revised cars all the time. So I would not take that into account when choosing.
What class/size of car are you looking at? There's loads on here that can advise apart from HJ. These will have real-world longer term experience etc.
