STGO Cat sign On Lorries ? - integrale
I quite often drive down the A303 and see lorries with a variety of heavy military loads on the back. They always have a sign saying STGO Cat 2 (or 1 or 3). I was wondering what this means? I'm sure someone out there can tell me.

It stands for "special types group order". the three numbers refer to which weight category there in. (up to 150 tonnes i think but i`m not certain)

It actually (technically) stands for Special Types General Order and comes in categories of 1, 2 & 3.

Cat 1 = up to 50 tonnes
Cat 2 = up to 80 tonnes
Cat 3 = up to 150 tonnes

Basically all it means that the vehicle is designed/approved for carrying abnormal loads/weights and the maximum allowed depends upon the category as dictated by the sign.

Well done Simon, couldn't have explained it better indeed - quite a sight meeting a Nooteboom steering low loader with for instance a Quarry Crusher onboard and an 8x4 specification Topline V8 Scania...(for example)

If anyone wants a few nice photographs of some STGO CAT plated rigs in motion, let me know...

Cheers!
