A renault mechanic told me the Scenic II has front disk wear indicators. I've never heard of this and putting it in context of other nonsense he told me doubt it is true - am i wrong?

Disc wear indicators, he even put his hand inside the wheel to feel for something.

Ive seen these on brembo? aftermarket discs.
Didnt know they were now factory fitment on some cars.

Rossini discs have their name cut into the surface - when you can't read it any more it's time to change. Maybe the Renault has a groove or soemething cut in to the appropriate depth?

Along with most discs they have dots or wear groves on them when you cannot see them or feel them they are worn out,normal way is to feel how big the ridge is at the edge of the disc experience tells you when they are scrap.

Most discs will also have their minimum thickness cast into them on manufacture tho' you will need to remove the wheel to measure.
