when driving my 95 405 i am getting a fast ticking noise from the steering column,/indicator stalk.
but if i use the indicator left or right it works normally then will go of intermiterntly afterwards.
any advice would be appreciated.

Flasher units normally only tick fast if there's a tiny current flowing. Is there a short through copper-contaminated grease in the switch?
|
not sure . is it fixable or will i have to buy a new switch.

I had this problem on the Xantia. I think Screwloose is on the money with the cause.
Before going down the new switch route I moved the rubber shroud away from the switch (the one which moves with the stalk) and gave the thing a darned good dose of WD40 type stuff with the extender tube on it. It was kill or cure. It cured.
That was about 2 1/2 years ago. The switch is still behaving itself (touch wood)

It's a well known problem on Xantias. Try moving the stalk up and down rapidly a few times - that will probably clear it for a while. Replacing the swtich is the eventual option. I had to do it on my Xantia when the switch eventually jammed...
