DVLA RFL Check - Wee Willie Winkie
Afternoon all,

Out of curiosity, I did a DVAL RFL check on my old Passat. The results were it was no longer taxed, but also had an export marker against it. Now, I know I'm being *uber* stupid here, but I assume that means it's been exported...

Who on earth would want to export a 200,000 mile (when I sold it a year ago, so I assume around 210,000 now) 'R' reg Passat?

Perhaps it's gone to Poland/Latvia/Lithuania as cheap transport?

But it's RHD. Imagine the problems at a Polish McDonald's drivethrough.....

Given an hour in Albania it will be any drive you want.

Evening,

Hope you don't mind me hijacking, but I did the same for two cars I've owned previously both of which have been scrapped and the check came back saying that they were unlicensed! Bit worrying that - waiting for my fine to pop through the door!

Have you sent the V5 to DVLA telling them that you've scrapped them ?
DVLA RFL Check - Badwolf
D'you know I can't remember. One was scrapped about (puffs out cheeks and looks thoughtful) ooh, 11 years ago and the other about four and a half years ago. I *think* I kept the little brown tear off slip thingy from the one in 2003 but not got a clue about the older one.

This is another slight hijack, i have a tax disc i need a refund on but the car is my dads name, so will the cheque be assigned to him ( the name on the logbook) or me, the person who paid for it? If i put my details on the refund form will they still issue a cheque?
DVLA RFL Check - bell boy
i wouldnt worry either way once the cheque comes back, if its in his name there is a box to sign that transfers the cheque to a third party.

.. the check came back saying that they were unlicensed!

That's what it says for every car without a valid tax-disc, whether it's on the road or not (unless it's on a SORN, in which case the site tells you). No need to worry - I typed in the reg of an old Montego we had when I was a kid and it came back as "unlicenced" too. As it was made of rust and had a water leak when we traded it, i KNOW that will've been scrapped by now!

I just checked a car I scrapped 2 years ago and the site couldn't find any record of the car. I still have the DVLA letter thanking me for informing them and a receipt from the scrapyard so I'm not too worried, just confused as other cars I know were scrapped before that show up as unlicensed.

Interestingly if your car was sent 'over the water' to Northern Ireland - still part of United Kingdom the car is classified as having been exported. Additionally when it arrives over here and goes for re license it requires a lot of paperwork but can if the buyer wants get a new N Ireland number plate. Where I live its FIG !

SNIPQUOTE!
Thanks for that Greg. To be honest I wasn't particularly worried as I presumed that if they were going to stiff me for the cash they'd have done it by now! But it's good to learn how the system works. Incidentally, I checked a car that I sold to a chap in Eire about this time last year and it doesn't recognise the reg plate. Presumably it's been re-registered over there and deleted from the DVLA's records.

how is it you do a DVLA RFL check?

Was about to ask same question as Kush - can't find the link on the DVLA website.
