Traffic census - Mapmaker
Seen this morning in quiet street in West End just north of Oxford Street.

What do they do? And given it was signed at the start of the street, I'd have taken the opportunity to turn left or right and avoid it. Wouldn't you?

Err, ask you questions, "like how many times have you come this way this week?"

Got nobbled by one in Wales once, where the answers were a mockery

How many times? Earlier today and now - ever
Will you come back? Never
Purpose of journey? To buy car that is now on my trailer

I had spotted it earlier but not knowing the area at all, had no option but to come back that way and get caught.

Maybe I'm being too nervous, but I don't like policemen to pay too much attention to me.

I got caught in one years ago, It was a short cut between 2 main roads. Time? 7:30am. The Question, "why are using this road?" Answer "To go to work." Next question "Where are you going?" Answer "To work." Q? "Do you use the road much?" A "Yes, every day to get to work." etc etc. You get the picture. Naturally I was late for work.

Tell them you're not going to answer their nosey questions.

I really do struggle with an attitude not to answer surveys. They are done for a reason, if apathy rules and no one responds we end up with the consequences and usually drivers moaning that they are never asked!

You have to stop but you don't have to answer their questions - or you could tell them a load of rubbish, they've no way to check.

and found this after a little google:

Where have you come from? My mother's womb.

Where are you going to? The grave.

Covers it all, really.

I don't agree with this 'answer the census' mentality.

A census only proves the blinking obvious. Traffic is worse a) in the morning and b) in the evening.

So why cause chaos to find this out? Must be so the local authority can get some money as it shows they are 'actively' combating congestion.

Precise information on traffic flows, broken down by various social and economic parameters, is needed to plan future traffic policy that will cause maximum disruption to traffic at minimal cost to local government. Something as simple as changing the phasing of traffic lights can cause gridlock at will in a large town.
