often wondered how my 97 reg Carina E might fare in such a nightmare scenario ...

The Swedish Folksam site gives ratings on older cars based on real-life accident statistics. Your car is rated as 'average': snipurl.com/1qnb4
Which is comparable with many other cars of the same age..

Its of little value really. Your car is ten years old, the seams are probably weaker than they were, there could be hidden corrosion, your car could have had accident damage repaired, your airbag might not work, etc etc
All in all it means that 10 years down the line, your 10 year old NCAP rating might not be the same!
