Nissan Almera Exhaust Life - GregSwain
Just got back from Kwik-Fit after having the Almera's original exhaust replaced after 7 years and 73k miles. They had a hell of a job removing it, but the car was beginning to sound like a chavved-up Saxo as both the middle and back-box were blowing, so I took the plunge and had it done. (Not at a bad price either, plus I had forgotten how quiet the car used to be).

A lot of people waffle on about petrol cars needing new exhausts every 3 years etc, have I been lucky or are the diesel-heads just picking fictional faults with petrol cars? Can anyone beat a 7-year exhaust life on a petrol car?!

My 1999 Volvo S80 @133k miles is still going strong on its original exhaust.

I also had an '89 Jaguar XJ40 which had done 166k on the original before the car was stolen!

Bet the aftermarket replacement doesnt last seven years........

i usually find at this age its the middle section and the flexi front pipe that needs changing
£35
and £60 i think i paid
as keith s says though the new ones will probably only last 3 years ish

Well it came with a 3-yr guarantee, so I hope it lasts 4 or 5 years. Impressed with the Jag exhausts - were they stainless by any chance?

Sorry - should've read Jag & Volvo exhausts... I'd love an edit button.

I think the XJ40 was fitted with an SS system (at least parts of it) at manufacture, so that might be classed as 'cheating' :-) Not sure about the S80....

Neither car is/was used for short runs, so this would have helped.

you might get 18 months if you are lucky.

When the original exhaust on my car died after 3 years I had a Powerflow stainless made and fitted fitted, it is guaranteed for the life of the car........ so long as I have it checked once a year, due for it's 4th check next week. £220 including a neat shiny oversize tailpipe, money well spent.

Excellent! If it lasts 18 months, and its replacement is the same etc etc, I'll have free exhausts for the life of the car as they all come with a 3 year guarantee! :-)

I've heard them all now!

I've got a 174k Saab 9-5, and although the back box was changed at 150k the rest is original.

The original exhaust is much better quality than nearly all after market ones which I have generally found only last about six months longer than the 2 or 3 year warranty. If you are going to keep a car a long time its worth paying the extra.
