Central Locking Blowing Fuse - drew1103
When I dead lock my central locking, the 20amp fuse blows. I've gone through 3 in a matter of a couple of hours. Could the relay be on the way out or is it something more sinister?

its a vauxhall
need i really say more?
have it checked as a 20 amp fuse is a big thing to blow on a dead short which is what you have
are you covered fire and theft?
i dont think its the relay by the way,i would go for a faulty door switch or a loom problem in the door shut, maybe leave the fuse blown and lock the doors with the blipper till bank error in your favour and see the nice man in the white coat that can fix it for you?

oh and good luck :)

Hidden within Bell Boys fevered and mad ramblings may lie the answer. Its probably a short in the cabling between door and door post. Probably the drivers door as this is the one that gets used the most. Possibly in the Hatch wiring.

I thought it was Italian cars that used to have duff electrics? 50's & 60's Vauxhalls = Rust but I've never connected the Griffin with duff wiring.

Check the wiring that travels from the rear roof panel to the tailgate. It runs thro rubber convoluted trunks. The wiring here can get stressed and rub out on metal bodywork.hth

Yes, it's odd, he's normally so sane and measured!

Anyway, the fact that the fuse is blowing consistently is actually a *good* thing! That the fault is always present is good, because it's much more difficult to find intermittent fault. It will be easy to probe the wiring at the central door locking relay and measure which part of the circuit is causing the short.

As mentioned, the problem is much more likely to be in either a door shut or the tailgate than anywhere else in the system.

In an albeit weak defence of Vauxhall electrics, at least they aren't anything like French electrics!
