new drivers may face a big increase in the fees for their driving tests. The Driving Standards Agency wants people's views as part of a consultation process. It aims to raise the basic car practical test to £56.50 and increase the theory test up to cost to £30, meaning the total will be £86.50.

Added to the cost of the lessons and the insurance once they've passed and its a wonder that anyone bothers at all.
Just get in a car and drive and suffer a minor fine in the unlikely event that you ever get stopped.

Yes its really stupid. It is little wonder that youth do not bother with lessons, passing test or getting insured.
Its cost nearly £2000 to get young RF on the road as a fully insured and legal driver and that does not include the cost of the car.

If the cash was going into paying examiners a decent wage I'd be for it, but it won't as DSA are relocating most of their test centres to accommodate new parts of the test and this isn't cheap.

Exactly, that's what they want - to stop motoring!
