anybody seen these or have i been asleep?
M6 motorway signs give drivers journey times
Drivers on the M6 in the North West can now see electronic road-side signs that give real-time messages to says how long a journey will take.

You've been asleep ;)
They're on the M42 too.

The new service, from the National Traffic Control Centre follows a successful trial in the West Midlands and South West and will roll out across England soon.

Now seen on the northern sections of the M25

These are very useful, so long as they are accurate. If they use Trafficmaster input or similar, they should be.
They have been regular in France for a number of years now. I could never work out why we didn't have them.

Seen them on M25, amazingly quite accurate... no more inaccurate congestion ahead signs then???
On most of the M5 from B'ham to Bristol.
One thing that gets me though is the fact that they always use the junction number when refering to "time to Junction xx is 24 minutes.."
It's alright if you know where junction xx is but quite often I'm not sure. How difficult would it be to put the name of the [major] town/city/location that junction xx relates to?
they've had these on the M6 for sometime. The one today said time to J15 (stoke) XX minutes.
They're a bit like a red rag to a bull for me - i've just got to beat the time they state!
What average speed they use for calculation?
It's astonishing... I always beat the times! : )
About 67mph, on the M5 around Bristol they say journey time to Cheltenham J11, 28miles, 25 mins = 67 MPH.
What average speed they use for calculation?
Judging by the one on the m25 this morning which said j10 A3 - 8 miles 8 minutes, pretty close to 60 mph

I'm like that with the 'ETA' figure on my sat-nav!

Not really. If the traffic is averaging 40 mph and is fairly solid then you know how long it is going to take fairly easily. The French (them again!!!) have had this for years especially on the Perppherique around Paris. It is a fantastic idea and stops boy/girl racers changing l;ane every 2 seconds to try and get an advantage. If you know how long it is going to take then I think that takes out a lot of the frustration that comes from not knowing how big the jam is between you and your destination.

The M8 going through Glasgow have it too.

Its not what you drive, its how you drive it! :-)

the m8 is the only road (apart from the m25 obviously) that gets a mention every morning on the togs show
glad i dont use either ether or both

They've popped up on the M1 in Yorkshire this week too. Hopefully they are here to stay nationwide - I think they're excellent. Haven't had much chance to see about accuracy but as long as they are ok then very impressed.
We seem to have gained some Time Trial sections of the M1 in the North East where wagons etc are restricted to the inside lane for several miles.
What is the point of these I wonder? Doesn't make a lot of difference as the wagons sit in outside lane as normal.

Not sure about the accuracy of these. Leaving Leeds the other evening it said something like 'J30 20 miles 20 minutes'. Now that's a mile a minute or 60mph past the M62 junction, Wakefield and approaching Sheffield at 5.30 and we were doing about 25mph at the time.
