See a few on eBay with mega miles (400k plus), the engine itself keeps rattling along, but they've normally had a gearbox by that point.

How is that possible with the SDI engine - doesn't it take 3 days to reach 40mph?? 311K in 6 years for that engine - must have been hell for the driver. It puts my 109K Golf at 3.5years old to shame.....

I was a bit puzzled as to why the police would have had a vehicle with the SDI engine. Must have been very frustrating chasing baddies in it.

More a mobile road block. Having driven a Golf (mercifully briefly) with the SDI, its obviously some form of penance for polis not meeting quotas:)

That's an average speed of a bit more than 6 mph for every single hour since it was registered. I don't suppose it ever came near the M25 then.
