I am amazed that this post has not had any responce up to now.
The rider of the bike (assuming that his self-taken video is for real) is something of a 'risk taker', as quite apart from the speed, he (?) crosses double white lines and drives at what does to my eyes seem excessive speed under adverse conditions. Makes the 172 mph Porsche driver seem quite tame!
Seriously though, this rider seems to be putting other road users at risk and the example set is a very bad one.

Ah, but he probably has a foreign licence, so doesn't care about these unfair impositions, which apply only to mugs.
|
Ran a bit wide down that hill, didn't he?
Place for doing that is a nice bit of Autobahn, not a bumpy (and busy) B-road at sunset. Daft.

|
These chaps could easily end up as statistics IMO. Looks like they need to read the highway code as to the meaning of double and single solid white lines, and a few other things. I like a good turn of speed, but in more appropriate places.

The riding leaves somewhat to be desired but as is my belief speed in itself isn't a killer. Personally I draw the line at 150 or so on a bike. Despite having been on a Blackbird that had far more to give than I was prepared to extract. I guess I'm getting old.

|
And if he piled into a trailer that was being pulled across the road then it would be the fault of the driver who didn't check that the road was clear, wouldn't it?
|
I've just watched it again and to be honest some of it doesn't look as fast as the speedo would have us believe. Is it possible that our rider might have set the units on his speedo to kph for, ah, dramatic effect? If so, this means
a) that the max speed was more like 110 mph (which is still far too quick for the conditions, imo)
b) his riding is even more cack-handed than previously thought.
|
No its not as fast as the speedo would suggest. Its likely its in KPH.

"Its likely its in KPH"
A friend of mine who used to live locally had an imported Yamaha FJ1300 with a Kph speedo that could be switched to read Mph on the same scale. This became a source of annoyance to a neighbour who was very proud of his CBR, but got fed up with the children who kept reminding him that there was "a bloke round the corner whose bike could do 300 Mph"...

Not sure it's in kph as it's near the redline in either fifth or sixth, if you count the gear changes, neither would be in the 110mph range. If it's an R1 it would possibly pull close to 110 in first.
|
and here's the conclusion of my R1 owning colleague:
'That?s in miles, I think. Don?t know what the bike is, but to accelerate like that it must be modified (turbo or something). It may be an old GSXR1000 K1/K2. It went from 130 to 170 in a flick, normally the last few mph take a bit of effort? It would be red-lining at that speed, the revs are appropriate?'
