I've just read number_cruncher's, comprehensive, reply to the crankshaft damper question over on technical, and wondered:
How many more of us miserable ole scroats aren't prepared to take the wife and kids out on a sunny bank holiday and sit in a traffic jam?
You were probably as stunned as I was with NC's reply that you posted this in Tech so I moved it accross.. PU

Me. We were at some friends nea Kendal yesterday. Had stayed overnight and decided to leave earlyish for a day out. By 10am we were on the ferry across Windermere bound for Hawkshead. Had a wander round Hawkshead then drove to Ambleside, over Kirkstone Pass, Windermere and back to Kendal. It was 1.30pm by this time and the queues on the main roads into Windermere and Kendal were horrendous, fortunately we were going back against the flow!
It was our first visit to the Lakes and is definately somewhere to go midweek and out of school holidays.

me! cut hedge, sweep up, shred, paint, cut grass, fill holes dug by rabbits, watch GP. I've not finished Saturday's paper yet!

Great ride out on the bike today, passing all you families, sat in cars for mile after mile, queing to get to the next set of lights/roundabout and make some progress.
What you probably don't know is that just after those lights/roundabouts the roads are empty!

Me. Building compost bins to shame all other compost bins. Sharpen mower blades. Watch fish. Mow grass. Watch GP. Read more of Saturday's paper. Trampoline hysterically with boys. Minimal housework. Read some of Bike mag. Crawl under son's car because his mate texted him that it had left a puddle of something when son dropped off mate after work at 1:30am last night. Waste of time. Threaten to puddle son's mate when I next see him.
To come tomorrow; pootle on motorbike. Pub crawl on bicycle. Minimal housework. Clean cars. Try and find recently-purchased £35 VED disk for Mrs H's car and fix to windscreen. Make Mrs H scratch lunch for when she comes home from work.

18 holes of golf. Couple of beers. Back home to cook dinner for mrs before she heads off for the night shift, wash up in a bit and then it's the golf/footy on sky :)
Drove over the M27 on my way to golf this morning and it was chock full of cars going nowhere. I don't go anywhere on the Sunday of a BH weekend :)

Me neither. If you watched ?The Secret Life of the Motorway? on BBC4 did you see the Eddie Stobart driver recounting how, after a week of tramping up and down the motorways in an artic, at the weekend he likes nothing better than to drive in his car sometimes as far as Bluewater - from Manchester I think!
|
I was out on the bike as well. Good selection of roads meant hardly another vehicle spotted and they were rapidly dispatched.

I was going to mention this point, until I saw your post.
Eddie Stobart's base is in Cumbria...:-)
He said he was happy to drive up to 150 miles in any direction if his missus wanted to do a bit of shopping. Personally I would want to go to bed and sleep off all that driving at the weekend.....

Hahaha i work for Stobart and trust me... after a week dealing with uk and belgian traffic, if my wife suggested a 150 mile journey for shopping she`d get short shrift!

Off topic, but in case it helps - does his car have air con? If so, was probably just water running off the outside of the condenser. I've fallen into the trap of thinking my car was broken in this circumstance too.

Negative BB, but thanks for the thought. I am aware of air-con condensation :-)

Played the organ for morning and evening services as usual, and for a baptism in the afternoon - and another baptism at another church to help out a fellow-organist who often deputises for me. Wear halo.
Tootling around in the Mini being vaguely apprehensive having lent SWMBO the new car to go round the M25 and help elder daughter paint her new flat in Kent. Still had time for a nice barbecue lunch with friends who took pity on me....
SWMBO back safely and no signs of paint in the VW. God's in his heaven....
|
>lent SWMBO the new car
We dont appear to have seen the initial test report of your new car A. - I am sure its just an oversight on your part!

You are such nice people......I actually got my hands on some Autosol yesterday, so guess where I am tomorrow - polishing chrome, I FOUND SOME CHROME TO POLISH !
Apart from that sister and BiL arrive tomorrow, so I'll see my old 330d..might polish that as well !

Two wheels for me as well today, but pedal power and lycra rather than leathers and throttle. The cyclists trademark odd looking tan is coming along nicely.

I was combinding all day untill 10-30 in my Claas with a 190hp Perkins engine. I would much sooner work on a bank holiday or sunday than get stuck in traffic.
Yes I know what posters are thinking, why don't combines and tractors pull in? Well I do, but will the car behind overtake, will they thump. They just sit there looking worried while we are in a hurry to finish before it rains.
