Driving seat - causing discomfort. - Lynda
I recently bought a Honda Jazz and I am very happy with it except for the driving seat. Within a short time of driving, I get pain between the shoulder blades, at the top of the spine and in the neck. I have tried lumbar cushions, wedge cushions, adjusting the height - all to no avail. The situation is now so bad, I am considering selling the car. Have driven my sister's Vauxhall Astra without any problems - it is a much firmer seat. Can anyone offer some advice?

Lynda. Probably adjustment, You have no support at the upper back. This is caused by your seat back not being upright enough, or your hands are too far away from the steering wheel.

You should have good solid contact between your outer shoulder blades and the seat back in normal driving. Make sure you push your botty well back into the seat, and that using the clutch doesn not slide your botty out from contact with the seat back.

We have Jazz which we really only use around town but I find the seats uncomfortable - my main problem is with the shortness of the seat base, but the seat also lacks side support (which may be your probelm) so you're tending to have to hold yourself in the seat.

Seats in daughters appropriately named SEAT Ibiza are a million times better. However other daughters Mitsubishi Colt seats are even less supportive than the Jazz's.

Your symptoms suggest a problem in the Cervical or upper Thoracic spine. This is unlikely to relate to the seat, much more likely to be your driving position, particularly your upper body.
How tall are you? My wife drives a Jazz and is not very tall. She needs the seat as far forward as is possible and as a result the gear lever is too far back relative to her Left arm. Gear changes look most uncomfortable as a result.
Why don't you sit in the stationary car, simulate your driving movements and see what is uncomfortable or unnatural. Then try to adjust the seat or wheel accordingly.

My impression is that many females sit close to the steering wheel. Wife if only slightly shorter, but has the seat near the limit forward. ihave to to take it 2/3 back - Jazz manual BTW. Daren't comment again, of course! Think the auto Jazz is more in tune with driving: maybe because the manual is an aberrant for Europe?

I could not buy Jazz just for this problem! I had a test drive for one hour and within that time I felt pain on my legs! My problem was that I could not raise the seat high enough for most comfortable position.
