it was as i was looking at some tyres but they only quote in killometres
and the km was 22.000 km so will have to work it out into miles

Google is your friend for these kind of conversions. Put "1 mile in kilometres" in and you get your answer (1.609344 in this case). It will convert between virtually every measurement you can think of to another. Unless you want 10 hectares in gallons or something daft of course.

No arithmetic - promise - but (maybe I'm being pedantic) it does annoy me when people pronounce kilometre to rhyme with thermometer: it should be as in millimetre, centimetre etc.

US influence I fear, where it's spelt like thermometer.
