A friend has just ordered a Nissan Note 1.6 auto.
Does anyone know what sort of transmission this is, i.e. is it a type of CVT system or is it a 'proper' auto with a torque converter?

Ref your query The Note has a proper Auto box with torque converter. A friend of mine who is a Quality Control Engineer at Nissan assures me that they are Japanese manufactured. I have had mine for 9 months and I think it is a great little car. Mine does 33 mpg around town and 45 on a trip.

It has a 'proper' auto with a torque converter and a great "Overdrive" button.

Is this the same 'box as in the Modus and Clio?

I'd bet money on it being a Jatco box in the Note - one of the best you can get. Not sure whether Renault still put their own rubbish in, or whether they've taken advantage of their links with Nissan. AFAIK Nissan has ended its love-affair with CVTs (even the Micra is now a TC Jatco box).

Thanks for the responses guys - that's reassuring to know it's a 'proper' auto.
