Changing wiper blades - tyro
I realise that this will identify me as the most technically thick member of the back room ever, but I purchased some Bosch Super Plus wiper blades for my Ford Ka in Halfords, being reassured by the words "Blade change in seconds" and "makes changing wiper blades a child's play".

I was able to remove the old blade from the rear wiper, but after 15 minutes gave up trying to put in the new wiper blade. The new one looks different from the one that I took out. Have I got the wrong kind of blade?

The Bosch blades come with a universal "one size fits all" adaptor, so it may just be that it looks wrong when infact it's perfectly fine.

You do have to give them a good shove to get them on though.

Thanks very much. That's great.

I'm always nervous about giving things a good shove if I don't know what I'm doing!

I would say yes but not for the reason you might expect.

I recently bought a Bosch blade for the rear of a Focus.
It was a simple swop, the correct lenght, with no adaptors but it did not perform its task.
It was too stiff and did not follow the contours of the glass.
I had it swopped for a Champion which was fine. Do check that whatever blade you get that it does bend enough.
( I suggested to the online supplier that they modified their table of suitable blades.)
I suspect a KA has an even more curved screen than the Focus.

You may find that it is a special for the rear (the Yaris reaquired a Toyota one).

I had exactly the same experience. Now I buy genuine spares. Perfect fit, perfect function and cost within pence of Halfords own brand or Bosch.

The only thing which I occasionally have trouble with is deciding which slot in the wiper to feed the arm through. I try to remember how I took the old blade off but I still sometimes struggle a bit to get the new one on.

Don't put yourself down. We are all 'thick' it is just a question of degree.
A small tip. After 30 years of working on cars, I changed the blades on a Passat. The arm slipped and pinged softly on the glass. Small ding, which spead out to a long crack!
Now this thicky always puts a large thick towel on the glass 'just in case the arm slips.

saw that happen on a transit

Thanks all.

I can now confirm that the Bosch blades work fine on the Ka.

Most interestingly, when I changed the front blades, I discovered that last time the blades were changed (at Autoglass) they put a blade on that was too short. I had queried it at the time, but they insisted that they were correct. OK - maybe the blade Autoglass put on was correct and it was the Halfords guidelines that were incorrect!

You are a clear winner.:-)
I am still surprised the rear wiper tracked the glass.
