This seems an unusual way to demonstrate the sound system of their vehicles!

Bet there's still a few Boy Racers & their Corsas, that'd blow them away!!

Mark Levinson is among the most respected and most exclusive hi-fi brands in the business. I have yet to hear a Lexus stereo system, but I have had the pleasure of countless Mark Levinson home hi-fi demos, all of which have never been less than breathtaking. I would imagine if Mark Levinson had a hand in these systems, and were prepared to put their name to them, it would take some going to find another car hi-fi that got close to it.
A Mark Levinson domestic hi-fi pricelist bears very similar numbers to a Lexus car price list. I've been out of the hi-fi trade for a while, but I am confident that to build a complete Mark Levinson home system would cost more than a fully loaded Lexus LS. We're talking the upper reaches of high end kit.
Cheers

It'll sound a bit different to my old 8 track & the 2 pod speakers, on the parcel shelf, from my Capri days, then!!

I have a premium Mark Levinson in my LS, and to me it sounds..um..like a car radio. I can only guess I don't have the ears for it. I've not actually put any CDs in it mind you so maybe I've not heard it properly.
As to the symphony orchestra thing mentioned, the plan appears to be to have 21 LS cars, each playing a different part of the music. I can only imagine they must have split the parts onto 12 CDs - so how do you start them all at once so they are in sync? Lots of trailing wires bodged into the wiring harnesses leading to one start switch? Messy. Very localised FM transmissions on different frequencies? Complex. 12 blokes pressing start at the same time? Bound to be out of sync.

Exactly. Try Dynaudio System in Volvo S80. Awesome !

Compressed FM radio sounds carp whatever you listen to it on. In fact, the better the system, the worse it will probably sound, as the warts 'n all quality of good kit starts to work against you.
Try a CD!!

I'll see if I can find a CD somewhere. But thanks for the FM info. I noticed this morning the news was very "slushy" and thought is that the best it can do, assuming the RDS thing had picked the strongest radio 4 signal.

Must admit I've literally never even tried the CD multi-changer in my car. It's a bit of a nuisance, as it takes up a chunk of space in glove box.
|
Built in behind the front dash in mine, so no space issues in either glove box. Just don't listen to music as a rule so not got to it.

I'm hugely impressed by the Bose system in my Accord. Even through a cassette adaptor MP3s sound marvellous, and it's quite capable of deafening me with no distortion at about 30% volume. I keep finding amplifiers in the boot. :-)
