TVM Metamorphosis Vol 2 - Mapmaker
Sorry, but I cannot reliably get Vol 1 to download in its entirety. Far too long. Hence I suggest a new volume.

On the tax point with the leather seats, yes, RF will suffer extra tax.

His only obvious recourse is to his employer/the lease company. But beware, the compensation will be taxable, as it is a sum of money received in connection with employment, so will have to be grossed up for tax, and tax paid on it.

Confirmed BTW with the PAYE specialist who sits next to me.

TVM Metamorphosis Vol 2 - Altea Ego
Mappy, yup you confirm what I suspected. I know there is no way round the list price P11d value increase . And I also figured that any compenstion in turn would be taxable.

It gets worse

BOBBYG More heart ache for you

Apparently the leather interior does not have heated seats as standard. This is part of the Winter pack. Yup sure enough dealer confirms it was shipped with winter pack as well (heated seats, heated washer jets and Headlamp washers). Quick check of car reveals the blanking plates in the bumper are in fact not blanking plates, but hi pressure washer jets that spring out)

I cant get this option priced on the seat website tho

There is very hot telephone lines between leasing company (who now have the car registered in their name) and Dealer.

Not informed the internal bean counters yet. Just informed the leasing company. I also phoned the supplying dealer (becuase i got on well with the staff there) to find out what the inside gen was. The garage have screwed up it seems.

My postion is thus. I will as a postion of last resort swallow the the extra P11D tax. I will not accept a private use charge fom the leasing company due to the cost of the car now being beyond my allowance.

Good Luck with it !

You'll find next it has Xenon HID headlights! Maybe you have been given the wrong car??? And someone else is about to be very disappointed with a lower spec one...

Over 4 years this is starting to get a little costly isn't it.
TVM Metamorphosis Vol 2 - rtj70
Looking at the SEAT website, the OTR price seems to include VAT, so leather is £835 and sunroof is £310. That seem like bargain prices to me. Obviously now talking winter pack as well though - which is another £275 inc VAT.

If as me you chose a car that will have cost a particular price and now find it will cost more, you might have chosen differently now you're paying more anyway.

Hope you're enjoying the car.
TVM Metamorphosis Vol 2 - rtj70
Just curious, but does your car have the leather seats only or leather seats + leather interior. I found the price for the winter pack my spec'ing up the Altea. But that has options for leather seats (£875) and leather interior (also £875).... so if you had both then that's £1750! Might not be available on an Altea XL though - or not via the website spec selector.

How could a dealer spec a car with over £1400 worth of extras for nothing???
TVM Metamorphosis Vol 2 - Altea Ego
Leather interior and leather seats are the same. (one is free with the other) It does not have HID zenon lights (I have now checked for all possible features)

So its been specced by mistake with

Leather £875
Sunroof £310
Winter pack £275

total £1460

Say the BIK rate for the car is 20% - thats £292 benefit, taxed at 40% = £117 year in real cost to me.

TVM Metamorphosis Vol 2 - rtj70
So over 4 years the cost of a holiday for two, depending on where you go and when of course. Don't forget the extra boot floor thingummy too.

I notice on the Altea/Toleda the leather seats and interior are separate but the interior is free of charge with leather seats on the Altea XL. Select leather seats and it selects both but you can deselect interior on the other two.

Still surprised a dealer could have made much/any money by supplying this vehicle without being paid for the extras.

Good luck with sorting compensation without paying extra tax, e.g. monthly lease payment reduced to cover the difference in tax on P11D value. This way you would not be taxed on the compensation. Remember that in four years the car might be worth more with the extras so the lease company is winning anyway.
TVM Metamorphosis Vol 2 - Nsar
A holiday for two costing £660 odd quid? What's that, camping in Runcorn?

TVM Metamorphosis Vol 2 - Mapmaker
>>sorting compensation without paying extra tax, e.g. monthly lease payment
>>reduced to cover the difference in tax on P11D value. This way you would
>>not be taxed on the compensation.

Problem is you would still end up being taxed on it. For the taxable benefit is reduced by the PUC... so if the PUC were reduced then you wouldn't obtain the benefit of the tax deduction for the PUC.

However it goes, the £120 (or whatever) of cash tax cost to RF each year has to be grossed up by (presumably) 40% to £200. So he needs a £200 reduction on his PUC.

And have we thought about NI?

I suggest you reject the car, on grounds of complexity. :)
TVM Metamorphosis Vol 2 - rtj70
Or wait until they realise it's not yours....

Or just have to enjoy it ;-) But don't argue with another bus please.

Didn't say if a two week holiday or a few days city break. Using Jet2 you can get to Rome (or other Italian cities) for very little and then hotels/restaurants reasonable. We've got a late deal in Sept for Kefalonia for £486 from Thomson. Depends on whether you normally want 5* luxury.

This is getting off thread. I just wanted to say the money will pay for something, e.g. a cheap 40" LCD Tesco brand TV was only £599 today!

Nicolle and I had a week in Crete, 4* hotel, full board, flights and airport transfers in may for 650 quid.

We are off to Italy (sorrento) for a week in early October, 4* hotel, half board, flights for £595

But you do not face paying around £9 extra from your monthly salary (after tax) umtil next April to get the leather, sunroof and winter pack. And that will go up to £9.47pm in April 2008!!! That's nearly a good bottle of wine... or two for most of us :-)

Let's be serious though. If I had chosen a car and chose model/options etc and then found I'm spending more I'd be saying "But then I might have got that instead." Small amounts but it's the principle.

Personally, I have chosen a Mazda6 2.0D Sport (so Xenons, auto lights/wipers) but could have got the 2.0D TS2 for less but thought those Xenons were good and mica paint included in list/P11D price.... but since then my allowance has gone up by over £30pm I could have chosen so different and still been no worse off compared to now. I am still looking forward to my new/old Mazda6. I think.

Will miss auto dimming rear wiper and ability to have doors autolock but open without unlocking entire car. And have to persuade the dealer in Leicester to give me the iPOD connector for reduced free if I collect as I live in Stockport :-)
TVM Metamorphosis Vol 2 - rtj70
Lets just confirm something:

- BobbyG feeling happy he got the £60+VAT engine cover
- BobbyG now not so happy he did not get Leather, sunroof, winter pack and the boot shelf thingummy

Well you got the engine cover and Altea Ego has to get one now ;-)

Thinking about the extras and cost... had AE paid the extra cost per month for the extras he (any of us?) would not want them... as it is he might fine he has got a good deal.

Lets hope my new car that could be here tomorrow (but cannot have until end October) is okay in terms of colour and spec! They don't make the current Mazda6 anymore to sort it.

If your order has been entered correctly on the system from the UK dealer I doubt it's a mistake during the build, not with so many options. IIRC you have waited longer than expected have they given you a dealership demo order, rather than wait for yours?

By the way, the split zone climate control, press the Auto, hold it for 3 seconds and then when you adjust the drivers side, the passengers will automatically adjust as well.

But you probably know that by now!

Well its now got 500 miles on it. And I grow happier by the day. Its had a couple of long motorway runs and some fast b road x country dashes. I am becoming deeply impressed by its ride/comfort/handling/feel. Its a perfect combination of handling and smoothness.
Steering feel is super, finger light around town yet good feedback on the twisties and heavier at speed on the motorway.

The number of toys is at a level thats unbelievable at its price range and it seems to be very well built (with some cheapskate touches tho - like only one remote key!)

Some annoyances tho. The speedo is a mess and hard to fathom what speed you are doing, there is no warning light for the cruise control, and the clock is only available for drivers view and only then by cycling through the computer button. You can't have clock and MPG at the same time. In all the rain the auto wipers got a real workout and they work with stunning effect.
But you probably know that by now!

Yes I did. The climate control is the standard VAG control unit, with a different user interface. It can do tons of thing, including giving you a speed readout in one of the displays.

Well the dealer has been in touch, and have obviously decided there is some value in a fully loaded Altea, and have decided to swop it. I sincerely hope they loose a fortune on it. They have taken an option on one already in the system. Delivery of Altea 2 (minus leather, winter pack, electric sunroof) is in about two weeks.

Talk about stealing your sweets, I am really going to enjoy a specced down car for the next 4 years. The unnamed dealership frankly cant be trusted to sit the right way round on a toilet seat. I hope I return in a future life as a hemmaroid and infest the dealer principle for the rest of his life. Painfully.

I thought you were pushing your luck wanting to be compensated for the extra BiK, perhaps keeping quiet would have been better, BirK springs to mind ;-)

However as long as you are willing to absorb the BiK I would have thought you could argue that one, inconvenience caused etc, their fault, they ordered, PDI's and delivered the wrong spec car, perhaps meet half way and say you want the s/r thrown in on the replacement? A bit of fuss and they may decide to cut their losses and let you keep it.

It never even got that far. The leasing company wouldnt pay any extra for the car than was ordered so the dealer is taking it back.

AE suppose that possibly makes sense. The leasing company will have got it for the cheapest possible price, so the dealer probably feels that they could sell it as a demonstrator for a more realistic price to Joe Public.

I am on my second one ched. They swopped it in early october. The old one had 3k miles on it when it went back and the new one now has 3k miles up.

Funny how they vary. The engine on the new one is smoother, the handling on the old one was sharper.

Best way that way around, not much you can do about the engine unless it smooths with age though the handling could be down to geometry, if so £40 on a laser rig would sort it or it might simply be toeing in at the front, how are the front tyres wearing? If a little on the outer shoulders then you could get it alighned or make a tweak adjustment on the track rods yourself.

It will be sold as an ex-demo. The purchaser won't see the V5 until after
they have bought it and so won't know its famous history.

AFAIK "ex-demo" cars are typically sold on the understanding that they have only been used by the dealer/manu previously - i.e. the dealer or manu. will be the only owner on the V5. So when the purchaser gets the V5 and queries the 2 (or more) owners on it, one of which is a lease company, how is the dealer going to explain it?
