Pressure Washer - LinuxGeek
I'm going to buy a Karcher pressure washer tomorrow from Argos. Just would like to know what you guys think of Karcher pressure washers? Anything in particular I should be looking out for? Its for personal use and I'm set for one with 1400 watt motor. Thanks

Drain it completely before storing it anywhere at sub-zero temperatures, I mean completely. I found out the hard way!

Car washing 1400watt is fine

slabs, patios etc go for a more powerful one and not necessarily from Argos

I bought 2 x in December @ B&Q (1 for me and 1 for Xmas present)- clearance of older models 1700W and I paid about £80 including patio cleaner head.

I have a Karcher one, and never had any problems.

Just to add a bit more. About two years ago our pressure washer packed up (borrowed by a friend and clearly abused as it performed faultlessly the time I had it), so I had a look on the Argos website.

I found an upright style Challenge model for £49.99 which seemed ideal. Even better, however, was the fact that it came with a free, normally £29.99 Challenge 14.4v small vacuum cleaner (the type used to suck up spilled liquids etc).

Both the pressure washer and vacuum cleaner are still in fine fettle.

But a Karcher would have been first choice if the much grater outlay had felt to be worthwhile for comparatively modest use.

I bought one of the small Karchers in a clearance sale at the local DIY shop for £50 a year or so ago. It's a brilliant bit of kit.

Cheers

Make sure ALL airlocks are out of the system before you turn it on.

I do this by running the hose first for 30 seconds to get airlocks out of that, then I crimp the hose breifly and connect it to the washer, then run the water through it for 5 mins ( by holding the trigger on the lance down ). I use an old car shampoo bottle to wedge in teh lance handle so i can go off and do something else while it blows the air out.
This is especially important when it is new as it takes quite a while for all air pockets to escape.

If you dont do this and the motor hits an airlock, it will dramatically reduce motor life.

Go for a Karcher with seperate detergent tank. I have one and it's a fantastic bit of kit. Without the seperate tank it's either not possible or a pain in the rear to shampoo the car.

It got one that is basically a Karcher one from Aldi last year. Think it's 150psi with lots of attachments, detegent bottle, wheels, etc. It was about £79 and cheaper this year. Excellent to be honest.

Attachments were not 100% compatible with karcher ones but a file soon sorted that.

I should add I bought a proper karcher patio one that needed filing to fit. This year Aldi had them cheap that fitted anyway. Pencil lance is quite effective though but nearer house I wanted to stop some spray getting on windows.

I got an upright Karcher with patio cleaner form Argos a couple of years ago in the sales for 49 quid. Works very well and the patio cleaner does a good job on the alloys - blasting from all directions!.

I picked up an unbranded washer from Woolworths last year for £15, down from £60. I believe it's 1500W, and does the job well enough. The hoses included with aren't the best, and I think this is why they were going so cheaply. The first one sprayed water out of every leaky connector, but the second unit I got from there works a treat.

AIUI around 50% of the units they were selling had the same problem, and these have been sold to an ebay company who sold them off with new hoses for £35.....

Make sure that your water supply gives out a good pressure otherwise it will run the motor dry due to lthe ack of water. Be particularly careful if turning on another tap in your house affects the water pressure to your new pressure washer.

Another option is Wickes DIY store , they are Lavour brand machines which are very good washers
