Now residing in Northampton. Need to get to Heathrow for 8am on a Sunday, returning 6am Sunday.
Coach. Simply not possible. Need to leave the night before.
Train. 3 1/2 hours each way. Multiple changes. Lots of luggage. Cheapest ticket £59 squids. £10 taxi each way to train station so £89 squids all up.
Parking £60 squids for 15 days. Petrol £20. Journey 2 hours tops each way.
So car it is. So much for the treehuggers.
I assume you mean Heathrow ? - PU

Sorry, cab £65 squids each way so plus tip £140.

I'm not sure anyone seriously believes, despite £1/litre petrol, that public transport is viable outside large cities.
I'd personally hope to do 63 miles of motorway + 5 miles off it in considerably less than 2 hours. More like 1 hour on a Sunday morning.

Was being conservative Flunk. Got to park 3 miles off airport and take the shuttle bus but figuring on 1 1/2 hours max.
Plus insanely you can get a night in a 4* hotel AND 15 days free parking for £60 quid an option I would take if I didn't ned to be elsewhere.
My point. The cars a no brainer.

Well I guess no self respecting treehugger wouldn't be going to Heathrow anyway. I think you have to factor in the total cost of running a car not just the petrol and parking. Actually the taxi deal looks l pretty good value if you don't actually own a car. Where owning a car come into its own is sheer convenience. Economically its just a money pit. For a lot of people not having a car makes a great deal of economic sense.

Your right treehuggers like George Clooney don't go to Heathrow. They fly by private yet which means Northolt.
