Babyseats in a Lucida/Estima - Chris7
Hi all,
my Daughter has purchased a Toyota Import above with the 8 seats.
The problem we are having is fitting two baby seats in the car, the original seat belts seem too short, I purchased a couple of extenders off of Ebay, but the couplings did not fit, although the idea was brilliant.
Has anyone else come across this, any answers, is it legal to sell these cars under the "not fit for purpose", or what?

Any help as always would be much appreciated, thank you and Regards.

Unfortunately there is a market for these grey imports although I would imagine few people would buy a second one unless they were very clued up about things such as spares and very importantly, insurance. Insurance is loaded on these things as they are not standard uk cars and therefore parts are unobtainable or at best hard and expensive to source.
Anyway, to get back on topic you might be able to get belts from an 'equivalent' uk model from a breakers which maybe longer as we Westerners tend to be a bit rounder than our Japanese counterparts and that might be taken into consideration for cars produced for the European market. Personally I would never touch a grey import in a million years as their history is unknown and many are sold in the uk as being later models than they actually are and many are stolen/repaired write offs. I used to live 20 yards from an import 'specialist' and he was flogging these things for years as newer than they actually were before HM Customs and Trading Standards caught up with him!
He's now detained at HM Pleasure.

Have you read the "used imports" string in "discussion".

the centre lap-belt has a different size of buckle to the neighbouring lap-and-diagonal belt to prevent them being mixed up - maybe this is the souce of your problem?
