A PENSIONER led police in a chase along a busy dual carriageway before giving them the slip - on his mobility scooter.
The low-speed pursuit started when police asked the stubborn senior citizen to pull over but he defiantly cranked his scooter to its top speed of 8mph.
The chase caused traffic chaos as the OAP crawled down the fast lane of the A1032 in Middlesbrough before the officers lost him.
The determined OAP veered onto the Cannon Park roundabout where he gave red-faced officers the slip.

A member of the Middlesborough' Hells Grandads ' Chapter perhaps.
Seriously I was nearly mown down by an old boy in one of those in the local shopping centre on a crowded Saturday afternoon , weaving through the crowds at even 6mph is pretty dangerous in those conditions and because they are battery operated you don't hear them coming......

There's an old boy near us who rides one of these things, seemingly oblivious to other road or pavement users.

I was walking through town yesterday behind a motorbility scooter. It was the first time I had seen one driven in a manner that appreciated there were other people on the pavement. As I passed I said "This is the first time I have seen one of these being driven responsibly". His reply was to the effect that if you drive a car properly you will also drive a scooter properly.

Saw a rather large lady aim for a kerb at speed once.......and the thing wouldn't go up the kerb, it just stopped.....she flew forwards and ended up falling out of it sideways.
blasphemy removed knows how i didn't burst out laughing, i was aching to....Mate and i went and picked her up and dusted her down and off she went with just a couple of scratches and bruises.
There was a street full of people with strangely contorted faces and puckered lips.
