I am trying to judge how fair a price I have been quoted for replacing the cambelt on a Fiesta 02 1.4 Zetec petrol .Any comments?
thanks

So how much have you been quoted?
I paid £550 for a cambelt, tensioner, dampener, replace all drive belts, water pump and fresh antifreeze on a 1999 Audi A4. Work was done to a high standard with good quality parts and the old parts were left in the boot (at my request) for inspection.
Depends on what part of the UK you are in, main dealer or local indy etc.

I paid around 60 uk pds for cambelt change on my old Panda. But that was maybe 10 years ago..! And the old belt looked in tip-top condition.
AFAIR this job on petrol injuns can be much cheaper than diesel injuns. The big question is whether the cyclinders hit he valves if it breaks. I've heard there are specialists who do nothing other than change cambelts.

On the older cars I've owned in the past I've always changed cambelts myself, the view being that the cost saving was significant and the risk low when the car is only worth a few hundred pounds. I never found it that hard to change cambelts on various cars, other than the usual problem of stubborn bolts and poor access. however, on the Audi the thought of getting it wrong on a 5v engine doesn't bear thinking about and I chickened out and let someone else do it.
Maybe on the next change when the car is only worth hundreds rather than thousands I give it a go.

That £550 sounds expensive above. OP, you're probably looking at £200 at an indy.

Probably less;a lot depends on whether you have PAS and/or A/C which lengthen the stripdown/rebuild time.
