Hi

What is the ideal idle tick over rate for a 1.8 Mondeo?

Having a few problems with mine and think the idle rate is too low

Thanks for the quick reply.
My car is ticking over at around 600rpm at the moment and seems to vibrating quite a bit - would this be the reason why?

Low revs would make it vibrate and feel rough at idle.

But the real question is why are the revs low? Not what you have asked with respect.

More info and history might help.

On a modern car, tickover is not something you just twiddle a screw to fix. Your engine has a problem. The rough idle could be caused by low tickover, or the rough idle could be causing the low tickover. Either way - its sick.

Whats it like normal driving wise?

I'd guess that it was the rubber "T" piece just under the coil pack that has either come off or is split, causing the low/rough tickover. Failing that, a sticky idle control valve, it may need aclean out or it may need replacing.
