I knew it couldnt last although its more of an annoyance than anything else.
Once warmed through, when changing gears, the revs dont drop at all. At idle I blipped the throttle and it took a full 4 seconds for the revs to drop to idle again.
Is this a common fault? Its damn annoying to say the least.

I thought this was a function of all modern engines, something to do with emissions control. I was most dissapointed to experience this on an '05 petrol Almera after owning diesels for ten years. I then drove a new diesel van and noticed the same thing.
If however you find a cure, I'd be most interested - four seconds does seem a little excessive.

Not quite the same thing - yes its true that most modern cars dont have the revs dip quickly, but mine are holding on way longer than they do when cold - someone suggested to me the lamda sensor could be faulty - the exhaust on my car was replaced in the last year, possibly related.

Why not take it back?
might just need the throttle body cleaning
never had this problem with a fiat.

Its the first time ive come across it in any car.
I took some advice and fiddled abit with the cable going into the throttle body - so far so good but ive not had a proper run yet.
If it persists ill book it in.

I doubt that this will be your only Seicento fault however, as this website will demonstrate.

thanks for the link - doctorchris i didnt realise lambdas stopped working when the engine gets warm, thats one for the pub to be told tonight
made my day guv :-)

On the Fiestas this can be the throttle position sensor, idle control valve or a switch for the clutch pedal.
No idea if it's relevant to your car but it might give you some other options.
On my Fiesta some moron had pulled the clutch switch out and just stuck it under the dash area. :-S

I think ill book it into my mechanic and let him do the head scratching. When I can afford it that is!
Still doesnt affect the useability of the car so ill put up with it for the time being.
