I have just bought a Megane 97 (r) and sometimes when i am driving it there is a warning light what comes on. It looks like a box with a heart beat line running through it, i think it may have something to do with the electric/alternator... Am i right in thinking this or has anyone got the correct answer for my guess.
Thanks for all help in advance...

Hi djfire,
These cars are known for the coil packs failing.
I'd say that's what's happening, Does the car judder a bit when this light come on?
The coil packs are at the end of the plug leads two black boxes
|
i have not noticed when it judders if the light is on, but it does judder a little. Is this an expensive job to put right ?
Thanks for the advice

the light to which you are refering to is the engine management light EML, it means a fault has been detected, missfire, temperature reading etc sounds like you will be takeing a trip to your garage to get the codes read as the fault is registered in the ECU even if the light is not on

djfire,
Like topbloke says you'll prob have to bring it to get the codes read,
If it's the coil pack you could prob get a secondhand set in your local breakers for a couple of quid
You could fit them yourself, it's only a few screws.

Theres a jap breaker i use with lots of pencil coils on his counter, would i buy them? definately not,why not? cos its one part of a car that really needs replacing with new.
Oh and fit all 4 if this is your problem, last time i only did one and another went a week later.

Guys,
Thanks for all the advise, i will be on my way to the garage to get this sorted asap...
Once again THANKS !

djfire,
Seem as your driving a '97 I was talking about the coil packs (two black boxes from the plug leads) but if you have the pencil coils you should replace with new ones.
