Sometimes, when I am pressing on in my Ford Ka, and make a very quick gear change, I hear a squeaking sound. It doesn't happen when I do a more leisurely gear change, and I'm not aware of hearing this in other cars.
Any idea what causes it, and whether I should be concerned?

are you sure its not the clutch pedal?

I'm not sure of anything. It may well be the clutch pedal!

When you are "pressing on" it is possible that you are using the controls in a more brutal way - therefore it could be the clutch pedal.
Try and analayse your actions to see if the problem is you or the car.

If your gear changes are a bit rough, or you come down on the accelerator a bit early when changing up, the clutch plate itself will sometimes squeak while slipping slightly. Can be an indication of worn clutch plate, but needn't be.

mine still does specially if its been standing for a day or three, soon goes quite when the engines warmed up and a half a dozen gear changes

Thanks all.
Yes, the problem is largely me rather than the car - because if I'm driving carefully, it doesn't happen. So it all comes down to me being rough and brutal with my poor Ka. I managed to do it yesterday, going into 2nd - and the squeak definitely came as my foot came down on the accelerator. However, no squeaks today, despite driving almost 70 miles. I was being a careful and sedate driver.
