Last time I did anything like this was on a single cam 1800 Vauxhall Magnum. Your car sounds of similar vintage so may have the same system. The adjustment was via a small allen screw in the side of the cam follower. IIRC the screw had a squared off tapered end and screwing it in a click (90 degrees?) at a time reduced the clearance and vice versa. Blowed if I can recall the clearances though.

I think there is a haynes manual that covers this engine. the viva magnum ?
or at least I think its the one fitted to the magnum and the panther lima.

Lotus developed the alloy twin-cam head for GM to use with their slant-four iron-block engine in homologated competition. It's this engine in the Chevette HS, not the ordinary single cam slant-four in the Viva/Magnum.
Lotus later used the same head and built their own alloy-block slant-four using the same cylinder centre spacing as the GM iron-block engine. This went into Elite, Esprit etc.

JS,
Having done many of these single OHC slanted engine units in my apprenticeship at a Vauxhall dealer, each rotation of the allen screw = 3 thou. I still have the tool - an allen key on a long flexi with a 'T' bar built onto the end. Its still in my toolbox unused for many a year now!!

These are the views of Robin the Technician with 35 years in the trade. I fix, therefore I am...

But it's not a single OHC slanted GM engine, it's a twin-cam Lotus head using the GM block.

Is Bill Blydestein still working to suppliment his pension?

I've had a look on Piper and Kent cams websites and they only list modern stuff. maybe if you rang them they could help you?
