As a constant user of this exellent site I took the liberty to create an RSS feed for the technical and discussion backroom forum. You can add it to your chosen news aggregator (Sage, Great news, Live bookmarks etc').
Discussion forum:
www.feedfire.com/site/rss.cgi?ChanContentId=021500
Technical matters:

Top Man ! Just what I wanted. I have set the Live bookmark option and all of the threads are prefixed by "   " Is this unavoidable ?
Also how often does it refresh the threads ?
Thanks for your efforts I dont mean to be picky ;-)

At the moment all the &NBSP will show before an entry on some RSS readers (seems to be ok in SAGE) as the RSS provided for free from FeedFire, I think they want $10 to get is cleaned. Also at the moment the refresh rate is on a 24 hours basis.
Just to show you that if backroom site (DD take note) had a built in feed many would find this a good tool.
I like Motoring ho yes..!

I don't see why I should take note. My role is that of one of the moderators here. The forum itself is down to Khoo systems.

Just had a look on the feed provider web site, they ask for $20 per year to get the feed refreshed automatically every 1 hour (will also give you the manual option to do it all the time if you wish) any one to quid in with me?

For all of you that feel a bit technically challenged ...
If I've got this right, an RSS feed is good for those idle souls who can't manage to click the refresh button from time to time.
I'm not going to bother; I need the exercise ...

What refresh button Hawkeye? Can't say I've never seen one but I can't see one now and I've never known what they were for... They certainly don't refresh me and they don't seem to do anything for the computer either.
Technically challenged? In some ways, yes.

May I just say that if you are an IE6 user and have therefore never come across RSS feeds before, think very carefully before going down this route. Most popular news sites, blogs, and what have you have RSS feeds and those of us who have been using modern browsers for the last few years know what a joy it can be to browse headlines without visiting the site in question. However innocent pleasures can very quickly become mesmeric, then an obsession, and eventually an addiction. Families get broken up, people lose their jobs and their livelihoods, there is shame and recrimination. And all because the BBC's news headlines refresh every 10 seconds. Don't say you weren't warned.
By the way Google Reader is great, especially for those of us who use several computers and want to ruin our careers on all of them.

Almera there is no need to quote the post you're replying to every single time. - PU
No magic here, just google something like 'feed generator' , any site that don't have feed can be scraped for RSS , see for example : feedity.com/
Can be done with any site, file, mp3's etc'

I imagine that for HJ the reduction in exposure to advertsing would be an issue.

Oddly enough I use RSS feeds on my mobile phone. Catching up on Google Mews and BBC News feeds is a good way of passing a few minutes on the bus.
Maybe I've proved Baskerville's point.
For anyone who doesn't know, RSS feeds aren't a way to avoid refreshing a web site. They're a way to check regularly updated contents without necessarily visiting the site.
Arguably, this could have a knock-on effect for the operator of the site: if people can view your headlines without actually visiting, it could have an effect on advertising revenue. My guess is that this will be balanced or outweighed by attracting visitors who've spotted something on the RSS feed.
I've found the easiest way of subscribing to RSS feeds is to add them to the customisable My Yahoo! page.
