My fathers day treat was a visit to the Haynes Motor Museum. Having only recently moved to the area, this was my first visit and I'll be back for more.
They were doing "dream car rides" taking people for a drive out in a few of the exhibits for a reasonable sum. IIRC choice was as follows:
1929 Alfa
Jaguar Mk 8
Jaguar E Type V12 convertible
Ferrari BB
Dodge Viper
Mustang 2006 convertible
1965 Gordon Keeble
MGC
Sunbeam Tiger
Bentley Arnage
Caterham 7
Guess which two I chose!

Caterham 7 and E Type?
|
I was tempted by these (who would n't be?) but thought that my rather large frame might be too snug a fit!
|
Been driven up to the Isle of Skye briskly in an aircooled Porsche 911. The ride over the Quirang road, Staffin to Uig, with the windows wound down was memorable. Did it twice!
That fantastic thrasshing and wailing flat six sound has stuck with me.

If restricted to the list, the 1929 Alfa.
If totally free choice, 1931 Mercedes-Benz SSKL!

Id take the Gordon Keeble myself although if they had an array of fancy 1930's cars, id prob go for one of them instead, something obscure and rare.

I was taken for a ride in an attractive looking 1930s Bugatti tourer many years ago, a straight eight of some sort -Type 49?- with a plain bearing low power engine.
Very dissapointing with the transmission/road noise drowning any engine note.
The modern Mustang plus the 1929 Alfa would be my choice at Haynes.
|
From the list, I'd have the Bently & E Type.
The Tiger, already done that one - my boss had one, back in 1975, when I had my Capri 2.0GT XLR. looked pretty impressive, both together in the car park, back then!
The mustang & Viper, were a thought, when we went to Vegas, both were on the strip, with For Rent signs. They were bright yellow, maybe to make sure everyone saw them coming & no doubt, for locals to avoid, as they'd know they were on hire, to un-tamed drivers!!

Tha Alfa of course.
And the MGC I think, if a coupe and suitably tweaked in engine, suspension and brakes.
|
Yeh - the alfa and V12 e-type
|
I would step over all of your bodies for a ride in a classic Mustang. ;o)
|
a classic Mustang. ;o)
2006. Classicschmassic.
The one you mean is Shelby Mustang. 40 years older or so.

The GT500. >:o)
Oooooh yeaaaaahhhh.

I chose the Mustang, mainly ?cos it looked great and my daughters could come along for the ride. Agree that the 2006 is no classic (yet) but it shifted a lot quicker than my Mondeo!
I then chose the more sedate MK8 Jag. This was for nostalgic reasons. When I was a kid in the sixties, my grandparents ran an old MK9 so I could n't resist a ride in something similar. Driver said that the car had been given to the museum some 6 years ago and had only one owner (a lady) from new. It needed no work other than a polish.
My grandmother was a short lady and when they travelled to Scotland in their Mk9 Jag, she captured the journey on a cine camera. When the film was returned it consisted entirely of a view of the splendid dashboard with a tiny amount of sky above!
