Now, if you are going to make a time capsule, thats the way to do it!
I see they left some petrol and oil with it, presumably in case we were all driving atomic cars by now.
I remember reading about this a while back. It's good to see a follow up.......
The only problem with the whole enterprise was digging the thing up again - assuming that it was like most other American cars of the period.
To be fair I can't think of many cars that would survive being in water 3 foot deep for 50 years.
Obviously they didn't HJ wasn't around to offer storage advice ! The tyres (or is it tires) seemed well inflated though, still think it was the best place for it.
Did you see the flyer offering one of these as a prize "a valuable antique in 2007" - probably not !

I know a farmer that buried an old Minor on his land, later wished he hadnt, 1/ cos he realised that the Minor would have been worth a few quid and 2/ because he realised that the reg number would have been worth a few quid.

Funnily enough a couple of weeks ago, water engineers found a car buried in next door's. It was there all complete with registration plates......probably a story there....
C'mon PU don't scrimp on the details!
The guy living there now moved in in 2001, it pre-dates him a bit.....quite a bit.
Could at least say what car it is and what sorta state it's in :-P
What are they going to do with it?
Fustrantingly I don't know. I was away when the whole thing happened.......
Someone I know bought a house that had been built on the old vickers plant at Brooklands, and wanted to dig a pond.
Out of the hole came a merlin engine.
Anyway, back to the Belvedere.
Reports on the BBC news said
"Air was pumped into the tyres but mechanics could not get it started"
NO surely not!

I'd like to see what sort of state the interior is in though

I'd like to see what sort of state the interior is in though apparently the door cards are slightly mildewed
and the lipstick has disappeared, bet they didnt factor that one in
That mildew was due to a blocked pollen filter. Some grass cuttings and cat litter will sort t !

2nd commentator : "Yeah, It's a peice of Tulsa"
Yup... it's a peice of something alright!

Does look a bit rough. I don't think I'll bother digging up the Volvo 144S and the SAAB 95 V4 my Dad buried in an annoying hole out back of his farm buildings. The Volvo was complete and running but terminally rusting before it went in. I expect it is now illegal but a lot farmers used to do the same. I suspect that is where his Mitsubishi L200 went too - literally run into the ground after years of service.

Thanks for the piccies.
Reminds me of when they wheeled out John Hoax, Peter Pervert and Lesley Dudd to open up the Blue Peter time-capsule in 2000 (which I can remember being buried).
That was full of water, too.
Why is it so hard to make water-proof time-capsules? Surely severe attack by penetrating damp could be anticipated? After all, they've been making water-proof submarines for a century; how hard can it be to make a water-proof time capsule?
Got bad news for you, submarines leak water, and need pumps to keep dry.
