Fiat Punto 1.2 Active Aircon. - Imagos
Well my Company Passat is going back in a few weeks to be replaced by a Fiat Grande Punto 1.2 Active Aircon. A bit of a downgrade but thats life!

Dont have any experience of these so could you give me your opinions, experiences antidotes etc of the current Punto?

Many thanks.

It's a great-looking car. But isn't such a heavy vehicle with air-con somewhat underpowered with a 1.2 engine ?

Surely your company should do the proper thing and provide you with a 1.4 16v Grande Punto !

they are quite a good engine even in 1,2 form alex
however wouldnt the 1,3 diesel be a better allrounder? if you can get aircon on it

Yup its fine looking metal - no bones about that.

but 1.2 with aircon?

Jeez - keep turning up late for work and say "dont blame me its only a 1.2 with aircon and dont travel very fast"

Imagos, I *think* there are 2 1.2 engines - 8v and 16v. The 8v that we hired was soooo slow, I didn´t like it much.
Nice design outside, wee bit cheap and plasticky on the inside. Bit disappointed overall. We enjoyed the Panda much more.

I test drove one of these last week. I couldn't believe the amount of road noise transferred up through the body; Fiat have skimped badly on sound insulation. The Fiat salesman said that 'you get used to it'. I immediately took a new Corsa out from the next door garage, like chalk and cheese.

I really wanted to like the car as it looks great outside. Oh, and the radio didn't work. On a demonstrator, so there's a great hint for future reliability.

I ordered a Corsa!

I found this a very lively car but don't think I could live with the rest for the left foot. It is too high and otherwise awkward, at least for my Size 11s.

The Grande Punto 1.2 is actually not that much less powerful than the heavier 1.4 8v, if I recall it's about 65bhp against 75bhp. Being an 8v engine it is also quite torquey at lower revs, and shifts the Punto better than say a 1.2 Clio III does. Though I too would have my reservations on air con, as I already feel my Focus TDCi 110 is underpowered with the a/c on...
