ive got a chain and sprocket set would seem a shame to leave the old one on as ive gone to all this bother ( for me a non mechanic) it seems like ive just about taken the car to bits to get to a bicycle chain !!!
|
It should just pull off;a bolt to protect the threads sounds an excellent idea.I've always taken them off with a screwdriver.

i think you really want to leave the crank pulley cog on
ive looked in my book and you may get the old one off but how will you put the new one on?
by all means do the camshaft and locktight the bolts and reuse the locking tab if it has one (they do undo)

Don't you just reassemble all the pulleys etc. and screw it down with the end bolt bb? I imagine there's a key of some sort to locate the sprocket.

im not sure lud but if there isnt a woodruff key in the crank then he may well end up, up the creak.
this is a later engine than old fiesta mk 1/11 and i am not sure if these do have this keyway

bellboy wont the new one just push on and poss a bit of a tap with a hammer? another thing as its not bolted on to the crank shaft how come they dont come loose when the engine is whizzing round?
|
the crank does have a key by the way
|
the new sprocks have got timing marks punched in to them aswell so i assume i line it all up (engine is at tdc no1 piston before i started)

|
this is what im saying
----taper----
|
well if it has a key on the crank then proceed
off home now.............

i measured the old chain against the replacement by drooping them on a screwdriver shank, the old one is only about 5mm longer, does that seem worn ? the tensioner rubber cushion has tram lines so thats obviously worn but its not that deep , think ive wasted my time , hope the rattle doesnt occur when i get the thing back in one piece
|
It'll still rattle-just not as loudly.
