Been meaning to post this all week.
Was up in Surrey at the weekend, West Byfleet, used to live locally, couldn't now, humps everywhere, ended up taking massive detours to avoid the damn things, i.e. five miles from West Byfleet to Hare Hill via Martys Lane and Ottershaw (past McLaren) to avoid two miles of Woodham / Row Town.
Nightmare!

You drove past schloss TVM then (not the return journey)
Cant stop - just off the chiropracter to see about my cocyx, and then the Tourvan needs to have this creaking suspension looked at...............

Probably the reason there are so many SUV type vehicles around that area

Soon to be hacienda Altea ego!
I did wonder if I might see a drive way with a Touran and two Clios, where, roughly, are you TVM? I could be that we used to be near neighbours.

Nice, used to live in WB, we would walk over the canal, the lock by the station, and up the lane to the Victoria.

We're in Surrey, and my V70 steering rack mount broke recently (Had to replace the entire unit) lots of humps here which I'm sure are to blame.

I too live in NW Surrey (just outside Kenland) .
I had to get replaced a snapped bolt that connects the anti roll bar to the suspension on the Yaris ( £45 for the part) . Apparently not a common failure but I blame it on the rash of humps everywhere in my area.

A friend lives in Harpenden (Hertfordshire) and says it is now referred to as Humpenden! Apparently any roads without humps have potholes to keep you on your toes!

Who, what, or where is Kenland?

I am just across the road from the golf course, a bit further towards Woking down Woodham Lane - pretty close!

Spitting distance from me! I agree, they're everywhere. Sunbury is bad.

I bet nothing can beat the pot holes in Mole Valley, especially Cobham Road. For over 10 years nothing has been done, and I've lost count of the number of people I have seen, standing next to cars with a shiny clean spare wheel fitted, measuring and photographing potholes as they prepare evidence for a claim against the Council. Probably fruitless, but worth a try!

Well how about you acting on it?

..and pass the word on? Surrey CC do respond.
I use this regularly and potholes in my area get fixed very quickly.
Give it a try tonight? :-)

I did this about a six weeks ago, and they did indeed respond by email. Some potholes were filled a few days later, but the problem is the road surface is so fundamentally poor that as fast as they fill potholes, more appear elsewhere. There is an almost constant flow of water on the road (local opinion seems divided as to whether this is a spring or a leaking main) which deteriorates the road surface dreadfully.
The road is one of those B roads that, although of a low classification, takes a surprising amount of cars. It really needs a complete reconstruction but I fear that will never happen!

Now that is a familiar situation with a tiny section of one way road in my area.
Lots of traffic uses it. It does not drain well. It is very near two schools and lots of children use the route.
Other roads in the immediate area have been planed and resurfaced.
IMO this section of road (about 150yds long) cannot be that expensive to fix so I can only assume that leaving it in a poor state also saves them installing humps and gives the kids a shower.

For the first time in my life I now have to travel fairly frequently along a road that has bumps. Fortunately they are of the type which are quite narrow and if you go over them fairly centrally you hardly notice them. I'm sure a car with a wide track wouldn't notice them at all. I assume one of their purposes is to get you to stay on your side of the rioad. They're really no big deal.

Yup, here in Humpenden we have more than our fair share, including two of the most vicious type: the ramp joins the flat top at an angle. These are placed just outside the police station, a doctor's surgery and a dental practice, so no doubt the noise and exhaust fumes are helping everyone in the vicinity to go about their business. Some locals slow down to a crawl to cross them; many don't bother.
Given the number of 4x4s in this town, HJ's theory that many people buy them to combat speed humps rings true. I asked a couple of road traffic police what they thought of humps; their answer might violate the no-swearing rule here.
Another masterpiece of traffic "safety" engineering is a a chicane in a dead straight road: it brings oncoming traffic onto a collision course.
The residential roads are full of pot-holes. The A1081 main road never has been. Guess which one was resurfaced a couple of years ago. Joined-up government?
