Citroen Xsara key fob fault? - wrigley
I have trouble with the key fob

firstly it lock and unlocks ok however when you open the drivers door all the others lock again and will not unlock until the driver door is shut.

also if you open the drivers door to about 6/8inches and sway it back and forth you can see the doors locking and unlocking and here the solenoids operating.
what is going on? I've been told that the code or key needs resetting what does this mean and is there anything I can do myself to fix it

thanks guys !!!!!

I dont think so i disconnected wiring harness multi pin plug from A post to door and re connected several times and connection is good.
I have been led to believe it is a key re coding re programming issue
any thougths on this ?

Its very unlikely to be anything to do with the key.
This fault on Xsara's is normally caused by either bad connections in the wiring loom to the door, or a worn lock mechanism.

I was going to add check the actual pins in the door harness connector...

I would tell you what I think it is - but I might be called a doom-sayer if I did....

Doesn't the point that swaying the door between 6 - 8 inches open causes the other locks to go crazy suggest that this is just a broken wire between the post & door?
I don't see how anything more sinister could cause a fault with symptoms exactly like this on a Xsara. The BSI unit doesn't have any way of knowing how far open the door is, merely if its either open to some extent or fully closed. It knows the door is fully closed from the information sent to it by the lock mechanism, there are no traditional type courtesy light switches.

Are the electric windows having prob;ems at the same time? if so it may be a broken earth in the door loom.

On a multiplexed Xsara the BSI won't let the electric window operate if it *thinks* the door is still open, so an electric window not working could still be a symptom of a fault with the locking, even if the earth to the door is fine.
