How do you know it's the driver's airbag? What about the pretensioners?
Airbags are dangerous to the uninitiated; buy a Haynes manual for the safety information.

Hi SL, I am reliably informed that the pre-tensioners are not pyrotechnic, but strong springs. However, the car is now being sold with the fault. Many Thanks, mally.

Only way to extinguish the airbag light on Vauxhalls once it's come on is to have it reset by Tech2 (or similar diagnostic equipment). The same equipment can also read out the fault code and tell you what is causing the problem.
As Screwloose mentions, the seatbelt pretensioners are part of the same system - this is the usual culprit for setting off the fault light.
