The remote boot release has stopped working on our 01 focus saloon.
There doesn't seem to be any fuse issues going on and there doesn't seem to be anything else obvious. I've no idea where to look next to diagnose the failure.
Any suggestions or notes from previous experience would be much appreciated.

Do you mean the button on the dash or the button on the key? If the latter I find mine takes two or three blips before it releases, even though the battery is ok. If the former, can you hear anything happening when the button is pressed? Another possibility is something like a bag strap has got wrapped round the lock on the inside - may be worth dropping the seats and having a look.

thanks for the reply.
The key fob works fine. It is the dash mounted button that is broke. Thinking about it, if the fob works ok then the solonoid and linking cables are all fine too. When the dash button is pushed there is no responding click. I wonder if a cable behind the button has been pulled out.

AlasitarW, the boot is designed to open with 2 presses of the fob button. Probably so it doesn't open by mistake.

On my fiesta ghia the boot release on the dash only works when the engines off as far as I've seen. I'd presume thats because no1 wants to open their boot while their driving do they?

On my KA the in-car boot release only operates below 5 mph. and not at all if the doors are locked.
