Here's a web site with pictures of the new Renault Twingo that we should see in right hand drive this time:

Looks ok, best Renault I've ever seen.

But, as we're all so wealthy, in UK, we'll not get the affordable, funky car it set out to be.
Instead, we'll have lots of must haves, on it, together with a price ticket, much higher than elsewhere, in Europe.

The darkened rear windows on the blue ones look naff.

The original looked cute, distinctive and compact. This thing looks like a bloated 107/Aygo/C1! What a pity.

Must admit that's what I thought as well. It's definitely more Citroen than Renault. Not that that in itself is necessarily a bad thing, but it's disappointingly derivative from a manufacturer who normally produces such distinctive product.

Not sure what the 'fuss' is all about really - the Twingo was, several years ago a fresh looking funky, fairly low-tech & cheap car - an updated R4/R6 (or even Ami8) for the 90's (or now 00's) - it seems now to be in the overly dressed & cutesy sub-Mini market & price range.

Yes its a cop out. Completely lost what a twingo was all about. Basic, cheeky, funky, fun & cheap.

Oh I dunno...
Looks like a mini Clio and the GT bit is a joke but looks as though it sets out to do the same job as the earlier one. The market has moved on in the meantime I guess.
Maybe it'll be enough to get my neighbour to stop using his Ami 8 estate as a daily driver...

Saw a whole fleet of these coming up through Germany (arround Stuttgart) on French registered transporters last week.
Looking at some stopped at the services they looked a lot like sawn of Clios to me. Hope they are as much of a success as the MK1 was in Europe but I have my doubts as they are nowhere near as unique as that was when it came out.

If it's well built (latest Renaults are much better) and it's reliable (things are improving there as well) then it should sell.
|
New Twingo just featured on French TV. The launch was in Slovenia - hence OldHand's sighting of the transporters ferrying them back to France last week I suppose.
Entry price of EUR7990 quoted on the telly - that must make it very competitive? Of course, the models used on tv were the specced-up EUR11k+ versions... it'll probably be impossible to get hold of a basic one for 7990...!

Had a good nosey around one of these on holiday and I agree with some of the above posts, it's not really in the same spirit as the old Twingo. Certainly it's a nice car with a quality interior feel and decent kit but it seemed a bit big really - much the same size as the original clio.
If they price it like the C1/107/Aygo it has a better feel and should do well. But I doubt they will, can only wait and see.

Ahhh... I loved the old Twingo when we used to go on holiday to France and I had no idea about cars, only that the nice ones were the cute ones.
I even had a model of a Twingo...
...I'll get my coat.
